Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

When the verse concerning Hajj was revealed, the Prophet ﷺ called out to the people and said, "People, Allah has prescribed Hajj for you, so perform it."They asked, "Messenger of Allah, is it for one year only, or every year?"He replied, "No, only one year. Had I said every year, it would have become obligatory, and had it become obligatory, you would have disbelieved."So Allah, exalted be His mention, revealed, "You who believe, do not ask about things which, if made clear to you, would distress you" [Maidah 5:101].He said, They questioned the Prophet ﷺ about various matters, so he admonished them, and they stopped.
