The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said regarding Laylat al-Qadr, "It is the twenty-seventh night, or the twenty-ninth night, and on that night the angels on earth outnumber the pebbles."
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال في ليلة القدر: إنها ليلة سابعة، أو ليلة تاسعة وعشرين، وإن الملائكة تلك الليلة في الأرض أكثر من عدد الحصى.
Ahmad (10734), Abu Dawud Tayalisi (2668), Bazzar in Kashf Astar (1030), Tabarani in al-Awsat (2522), and Ibn Khuzayma (2194) all narrated it through various routes from Imran bin Dawar Qattan, from Qatada, from Abu Maymuna, from Abu Hurairah, and he related the hadith.Its chain of transmission is hasan, due to the discussion surrounding Imran bin Dawar Qattan, for there is disagreement about him, except that his hadith is hasan so long as it does not contradict other narrations or contain something objectionable. This hadith of his contains nothing objectionable except his statement, "On that night the angels on earth are more numerous than the grains of sand," for he has not been corroborated on this point. However, it is supported in a general sense by the words of Allah Most High, "The angels and the Spirit descend therein by the permission of their Lord, for every matter" [Qadr 97:4].
