We were discussing Laylat al-Qadr in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he said, "Which of you remembers the night the moon rose looking like half of a wooden bowl?"
تذاكرنا ليلة القدر عند رسول الله ﷺ، فقال: أيكم يذكر حين طلع القمر، وهو مثل شق جفنة.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Fasting (1170), through the route of Marwan Fazari, from Yazid bin Kaysan, from Abu Hazim, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it.As for his saying, "half of a bowl," the "half" means one half, and the "bowl" means the large dish. Qadi Iyad said, "This contains an indication that it occurs in the latter part of the month, for the moon does not appear in that shape upon rising except in the latter part of the month."Abu Hasan Farsi said, "It is the night of the twenty-seventh, for the moon has that appearance on it."Hafiz mentioned this in Fath al-Bari (4/264).
