We were at Mina when a caller cried out, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ says, do not fast, for these are days of eating and drinking."She said, "I lifted the ropes of the tent, and there was the caller, Ali bin Abu Talib."
كنا بمنى، فإذا صائح يصيح: ألا إن رسول الله ﷺ يقول: لا تصومن فإنها أيام أكل وشرب، قالت: فرفعت أطناب الفسطاط، فإذا الصائح علي بن أبي طالب.
Imam Ahmad narrated it (821) from Yahya bin Ghaylan, who said, Mufaddal bin Fadala related to us, who said, Yazid bin Abdullah (that is, Ibn Usama bin Had) related to me, from Abdullah bin Abu Salama, from Amr bin Salim Zarqi, and he mentioned it. He also narrated it (824) by another route from Ibn Hadi with this same chain. Its isnad is sahih. He also narrated it (567) through Saeed bin Salama bin Abu Hisam, a freedman of the family of Umar, who said, Yazid bin Abdullah bin Had related to us, from Amr bin Salim, dropping Abdullah bin Abu Salama from the chain, which introduces a break in it. The correct version is the one that includes him.Likewise, Nasai narrated it in Sunan al-Kubra (2890) from Ibn Hadi, from Abdullah bin Abu Salama, and he mentioned it.What appears to be the case is that Abdullah bin Abu Salama had two teachers on this matter, one of them Amr bin Salim Zarqi and the other Masud bin Hakam Ansari, both of whom transmit from their mother. Reconciling the two reports in this way is preferable to declaring either of them mistaken.
