He entered with Abdullah bin Amr upon his father Amr bin As, who brought food close to them and said, "Eat."Abdullah replied, "I am fasting."Amr said, "Eat, for these are the days during which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to order us to break our fast and forbid us from fasting."
Abu Dawud (2418) narrated it from Abdullah bin Maslama, from Malik, from Yazid bin Had, from Abu Mura, the freedman of Umm Hani, and he related it as mentioned. Ahmad (17768), Ibn Abdul-Barr in Tamhid (23/69), and Hakim (1/435), and from him Bayhaqi (4/297–298), all narrated it through the route of Rawh, who is Ibn Abada, from Malik, with the same wording.Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih (2149), narrating it through the route of Layth bin Saad, from Yazid bin Abdullah bin Had, with the same chain, in similar wording. He also narrated it from Malik, paired with Ibn Lahia, with the same isnad, in similar wording.Yahya Laythi differed from this, narrating it in the Muwatta, in the book of Hajj (137), from Malik, from Yazid bin Abdullah bin Had, from Abu Mura, the freedman of Umm Hani, sister of Aqeel bin Abu Talib, from Abdullah bin Amr bin As, who reported that he went in to see his father, Amr bin As, and found him eating, and he related the hadith. Malik said, this refers to the days of Tashriq. So Yahya Laythi made Abdullah bin Amr bin As an intermediary between Abu Mura and Amr bin As, but the correct version is the narration of the group. Ibn Abdul-Barr says, "This hadith has been narrated from Abdullah bin Amr, from the Prophet ﷺ, but in fact it is from Abdullah bin Amr, from his father, from the Prophet ﷺ. The best chains for this hadith of Amr bin As is the isnad of Malik, from Yazid bin Had, from Abu Mura, from Abdullah bin Amr, from his father." End of quote. There is another isnad for the hadith of Amr bin As, which is what Imam Ahmad narrated (17769) from Rawh, who said, Ibn Jurayj narrated to us, Saeed bin Kathir informed me, that Jafar bin Muttalib informed him, that Abdullah bin Amr bin As went in to see Amr bin As, who invited him to the midday meal. He said, "I am fasting." Then a second time the same happened, then a third time, so he said, "No, unless you heard it from the Messenger of Allah." He said, "I did hear it from the Messenger of Allah."He also narrated it (17779) from Ibrahim bin Khalid, who said, Rabah narrated to us, from Mamar, from Asim bin Sulayman, from Jafar bin Muttalib, who was a man from the clan of Amr bin As, who said, He invited a bedouin to a meal, and that was the day after the sacrifice, and the bedouin said, "I am fasting." He said to him, "Amr bin As once invited a man to a meal on this day, and he said, 'I am fasting,' so Amr said, 'The Messenger of Allah forbade fasting on this day.'"In this chain is Saeed bin Kathir, who is the son of Muttalib bin Abu Wada Sahmi, and his uncle Jafar bin Muttalib bin Abu Wada Sahmi, both of whom are described as "acceptable" (maqbul) in Taqrib, except that they are corroborated in the substance of the hadith, so this isnad is hasan.
