The Prophet ﷺ said to Kaab bin Ujra, "Kaab bin Ujra, fasting is a shield, charity extinguishes sin, and prayer is an offering," or he said, "a proof."
أن النبي ﷺ قال لكعب بن عجرة: يا كعب بن عجرة: الصوم جنة، والصدقة تطفئ الخطيئة، والصلاة قربان- أو قال: برهان.
Imam Ahmad (14441), Abu Yaala (1999), and Bazzar in Kashf Astar (1609) narrated it, and Ibn Hibban (4514) and Hakim (3/479–480) graded it sahih, all of them from the hadith of Ibn Khuthaym, from Abdul-Rahman bin Sabit, from Jabir, who related it as part of a long hadith. Its chain is hasan because of Ibn Khuthaym, who is Abdullah bin Uthman, for his hadith is hasan.
