Jabir bin Abdullah reported,
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Our Lord 
said, 'Fasting is a shield by which the servant protects himself from the Fire. It is Mine, and I shall reward it.'"

أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: قال ربنا عز وجل: الصيام جنة يستجن بها العبد من النار، وهو لي وأنا أجزي به.
Imam Ahmad narrated it from Hasan (14669), and from Itaab bin Ziyad, from Abdullah (that is, Ibn Mubarak) (15264), both of them from Ibn Lahia, who said, Abu Zubayr narrated to me, from Jabir, and he related it.Its chain is hasan due to the discussion surrounding Ibn Lahia, but in one of its two paths Abdullah bin Mubarak narrated from him, and he is among those who heard from him before his memory became confused, so his narration is more reliable than that of others. Munziri graded it hasan in Targheeb wal-Tarheeb (1472).
