Azami 4406

Narrated by Nasai (2230), Ibn Majah (1639), and Ahmad (16278, 17902), and graded sahih by Ibn Khuzayma (2125) and Ibn Hibban (3649), all of them through the hadith of Layth bin Saad, from Yazid bin Abu Habib, from Saeed bin Abu Hind, that Mutarrif, from Banu Amir bin Sasaa, told him that Uthman bin Abu As Thaqafi called for milk to give him to drink, and Mutarrif said, "I am fasting." Uthman then said (and he related the hadith). Nasai abridged it. Some of them added, "and it is hasan to fast three days of the month." Its chain is sahih, and Mutarrif is the son of Abdullah bin Shikhir.The hadith has another chain of transmission, which is what Nasai (2231), Ahmad (16273), and Ibn Khuzayma (1891) narrated, all of them through the hadith of Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Saeed bin Abu Hind, from Mutarrif, who said, I went in to see Uthman bin Abu As, and he said, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say (and he related the hadith).Ahmad added in it, "The last thing the Messenger of Allah ﷺ instructed me with, when he sent me to Taif, was that he said, 'Uthman, be brief in the prayer, for among the people there are the elderly and those with needs to attend to.'" Nasai did not mention this. As for Ibn Khuzayma, he mentioned in it the addition referred to earlier.Muhammad bin Ishaq is a mudallis, but he explicitly stated that he heard it directly in the version narrated by Ibn Khuzayma, and he was also corroborated in the earlier chain.
