Imam Ahmad narrated it (22764), as did his son Abdullah from his father in Sunnah (1007), Uthman bin Saeed Darimi in Radd Ali Jahmiya (182), Bazzar in Bahr Zakhkhar (2681), Ibn Abu Asim in Sunnah (428), and Ajurri in Sharia (881), all of them through routes from Baqiyya, who said, Buhayr bin Saad narrated to me, from Khalid bin Madan, from Amr bin Aswad, from Junada bin Abu Umaya, that he narrated to them from Ubada bin Samit, and he related it, the wording being Ahmad's. Yazid here is Ibn Abd Rabbih, the teacher of Imam Ahmad, and Baqiyya is Ibn Walid, a mudallis, except that he explicitly stated the mode of transmission (tahdith).Abu Dawud also narrated it (4320) through this same route, except that he did not mention his statement, "You will never see your Lord until you die."This is something upon which the people of the sunnah are agreed, that no one will ever see Allah in this world with his own eyes, just as they are agreed that the believers will see Allah in the hereafter. The disagreement occurred only among the companions, the followers, and those after them concerning whether the Prophet ﷺ saw his Lord with his own eyes on the night of the Night Journey and the Ascension.Dhahabi said in Uluww (1/765), "Regarding whether the Prophet saw his Lord that night, there is a difference of opinion.1 - A group of the early scholars held that he saw his Lord .2 - Others, such as the Mother of the Believers Ayesha and others, held that he did not see Him.3 - A group held to silence and withholding judgment.4 - Some said, he saw Him with the eye of his heart."
