Abu Dawud (1634) and Tirmidhi (652) both narrated it through the hadith of Saad bin Ibrahim, from Rayhan bin Yazid, from Abdullah bin Amr, and he mentioned it. Hakim narrated it from this same route (1/407).Abu Dawud said, "Sufyan narrated it from Saad bin Ibrahim just as Ibrahim reported it. Shubah narrated it from Saad, saying, 'for one who is strong and powerful.'" The other hadiths from the Prophet ﷺ, some have "for one who is strong and powerful," and some have "for one who is strong and sound of body."Ataa bin Zuhayr said that he met Abdullah bin Amr, who said, "Charity is not lawful for a strong person, nor for one who is strong and sound of body."Tirmidhi said, "The hadith of Abdullah bin Amr is a hasan hadith. Shubah narrated this hadith from Saad bin Ibrahim with this chain but did not attribute it to the Prophet. It has been narrated, apart from this hadith, from the Prophet ﷺ, 'Begging is not lawful for a wealthy person, nor for one who is strong and sound of body.'"I say, its chain is hasan because of Rayhan bin Yazid. Abu Hatim said, as recorded in Jarh wa Tadil (3/517), "an unknown shaykh," while Ibn Abu Hatim reported from Ibn Main that he said, "trustworthy," and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in Thiqat. The hadith of someone like him is graded hasan, and he is corroborated in this by Ataa bin Zuhayr, as Abu Dawud mentioned, that Ataa bin Zuhayr met Abdullah bin Amr and asked him...Bayhaqi connected it (7/13) through his route, except that he said in it, "from his father," who said, "I said to Abdullah bin Amr bin As, tell me about charity, what kind of wealth is it meant for?" He said, "It is bad wealth. It is only for the blind, the lame, the crippled, orphans, and everyone who is destitute." I said, "But do those who collect it have a right to it, and do those who strive in Allah's cause?" He said, "Those who collect it have a right according to their labor, and those who strive in the path of Allah have a right according to their need," or he said, "their condition."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Charity is not lawful for a wealthy person, nor for one who is strong and sound of body."As for his saying "marrah," marrah, with a kasrah on the mim and a shaddah on the ra, means strength and vigor. As for his saying "sawiy," it is a description of one possessed of marrah, meaning sound of limb.
