Abdullah bin Umar reported,

I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Begging leaves scratches on the face of the one who does it on the Day of Resurrection. So whoever wishes, let him preserve his face, and whoever wishes, let him abandon it. The least objectionable form of begging is asking a close relative about a need you have. The best charity is what is given out of sufficiency. And begin with those whom you are responsible to support."
