She freed a slave-girl of hers, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, "Had you given her to one of your maternal uncles, your reward would have been greater."
أعتقت وليدة لها، فقال لها رسول الله ﷺ: ولو وصلت بعض أخوالك كان أعظم لأجرك.
Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on gifts (2594), and Muslim in the chapter on zakat (999), both from the hadith of Amr bin Harith, from Bukayr bin Abdullah Ashaj, from Kurayb, from Maymuna, and I have mentioned it. Bukhari also narrated it (2592) through the route of Yazid bin Abu Habib, from Bukayr, in similar wording.As for what Abu Dawud narrated (1690) through the route of Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Bukayr bin Abdullah bin Ashaj, from Sulayman bin Yasar, from Maymuna, in similar wording, Hakim graded it sahih (1/414), but it contains Ibn Ishaq's use of "an" without specifying direct transmission, and he is known to conceal defects in transmission. He also differed from Yazid bin Abu Habib and Amr bin Harith by saying "Sulayman bin Yasar." The correct version is "from Kurayb, from Maymuna," as Daraqutni and others have stated.
