The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Give in charity."A man said, "Messenger of Allah, I have a Dinar."He said, "Spend it on yourself."The man said, "I have another."He said, "Spend it on your wife."The man said, "I have another."He said, "Spend it on your child."The man said, "I have another."He said, "Spend it on your servant."The man said, "I have another."He said, "You know best."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: تصدقوا. فقال رجل: يا رسول الله عندي دينار؟ قال: تصدق به على نفسك. قال: عندي آخر. قال: تصدق به على زوجتك. قال: عندي آخر؟ قال: تصدق به على ولدك. قال: عندي آخر؟ قال: تصدق به على خادمك. قال: عندي آخر؟ قال: أنت أبصر.
Reported by Abu Dawud (1691) and Nasai (2535), both from the hadith of Ibn Ajlan, from Saeed Maqburi, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it. Its isnad is hasan because of Ibn Ajlan, who is Muhammad bin Ajlan Madani, about whom there is disagreement, though his hadith is hasan.From this same route it was also reported by Imam Ahmad (7419), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (3337), as did Hakim (1/415), who said, "Sahih according to the criterion of Muslim."
