The Prophet ﷺ ordered that from every harvest of ten wasqs of dates, one cluster be hung in the mosque for the poor.
أن النبي ﷺ أمر من كل جاد عشرة أوسق من التمر بقنو يعلق في المسجد للمساكين.
Abu Dawud (1662) narrated it from Abdul-Aziz bin Yahya Harrani, [who said], Muhammad bin Salama told me, from Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Muhammad bin Yahya bin Habban, from his uncle Wasi bin Habban, from Jabir bin Abdullah, and he related it.Ibn Khuzayma (2469), Ibn Hibban (3289), and Hakim (1/417) all graded it sahih, all of them through the route of Ibn Ishaq with this same chain.I say, its chain is hasan because of the discussion concerning Muhammad bin Ishaq, for he was known to conceal his sources, but he explicitly stated that he was narrating directly in a version reported by Ahmad (14866).As for his statement, "it yielded ten loads," Ibrahim Harbi said, He means an amount of palm trees from which ten loads are harvested, and its measure is the measure of what has been harvested, the word being in active form but carrying a passive meaning.And by this he meant the date cluster, with the ripe and unripe dates on it, which is hung up for the poor to eat.This is a matter of voluntary charity, not the charity that is an obligatory duty.
