I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when two men came to him. One was complaining of poverty, and the other was complaining of highway robbery. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "As for highway robbery, only a short time will pass before a caravan will travel to Makkah without any guard. As for poverty, the Hour will not come until one of you goes around offering his charity and finds no one to accept it from him. Then each one of you will surely stand before Allah with no veil between him and Him, and no interpreter to translate for him. Then He will say to him, 'Did I not give you wealth?' He will reply, 'Yes.' Then He will say, 'Did I not send a messenger to you?' He will reply, 'Yes.'He will look to his right and see nothing but the Fire, then he will look to his left and see nothing but the Fire. So let each one of you guard himself against the Fire, even with half a date, and if he cannot find that, then with a kind word."
Bukhari related it in the Book of Zakat (1413), from Abdullah bin Muhammad, who said, Abu Asim al-Nabil told us, Sadan bin Bishr informed us, Abu Mujahid told us, Muhal bin Khalifa al-Tai told us, he said, I heard Adi bin Hatim, and he related the hadith. Muslim related it in the Book of Zakat (1016) through other chains from Adi bin Hatim, in a shortened form. His saying, "without a protector" (bi-ghayr khafir), the khafir is the one who grants protection, from the verb khafara meaning he protected him. And "al-aylah" means destitution and poverty. These hadiths point to the abundance of wealth at the end of time, and that a person may not find anyone willing to accept charity from him, and in this is encouragement to hasten in giving charity. This will occur after the destruction of Yajuj and Majuj, when people's needs will diminish, and a person will not wish to hoard wealth because he senses that the Hour is near, so wealth will become abundant.
