I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "The one who collects charity justly is like a warrior fighting in the cause of Allah until he returns to his home."
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: العامل على الصدقة بالحق كالغازي في سبيل الله حتى يرجع إلى بيته.
Reported by Abu Dawud (2936), Tirmidhi (645), and Ibn Majah (1809), all through the route of Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Asim bin Umar bin Qatada, from Mahmud bin Labeed, from Rafi bin Khadij, who mentioned it. Ibn Khuzayma (2334) graded it sahih, as did Hakim (1/406), who said, "Sahih according to the criterion of Muslim."I say, its chain of transmission is hasan because of Muhammad bin Ishaq, for he practiced tadlis and narrated using ambiguous transmission phrasing (an'ana). However, he explicitly stated direct narration in a report found in Imam Ahmad (17285), which removes the suspicion of tadlis from him, and his hadith is hasan when he states it explicitly.Yazid bin Iyad corroborated him, narrating from Asim bin Umar bin Qatada, and through this route as well Tirmidhi reported it, saying, "The hadith of Rafi bin Khadij is a hasan sahih hadith, though Yazid bin Iyad is considered daif among the scholars of hadith, and the hadith of Muhammad bin Ishaq is more sahih." End of Tirmidhi's statement.I say, Yazid bin Iyad is Ibn Jadaba - with damma on the jim and sukun on the ayn - al-Laythi, who is severely daif. Malik and others accused him of lying. Bukhari said, "His hadith is munkar (unrecognized)." And Nasai said, "He is discarded (matruk)." Someone like him cannot serve to strengthen corroborating reports.
