Bara bin Azib reported,

This was revealed concerning the Ansar. When the date palms were harvested, the Ansar would bring out from their orchards clusters of unripe dates and hang them on a rope stretched between two pillars in the masjid of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the poor among the Emigrants would eat from them. But one of them would deliberately include a cluster containing shriveled, worthless dates, thinking it would pass unnoticed among the great number of clusters put there. So concerning those who did this, it was revealed, "and do not aim for the bad of it to spend" [Baqarah 2:267]. That is, do not deliberately pick out the shriveled dates from it to give away. "while you would not take it yourselves except with closed eyes" [Baqarah 2:267]. That is, if such a thing were offered to you as a gift, you would accept it only out of embarrassment before the giver, and with annoyance that he had sent you something you had no need of. And know that Allah has no need of your charity.

في قوله تعالى: {ومما أخرجنا لكم من الأرض ولا تيمموا الخبيث منه تنفقون}
