Jabir bin Abdullah reported,

A man died, so we washed him, embalmed him with scent, and shrouded him. Then we brought him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for him to pray over him.We said, "Will you pray over him?"He stepped forward a few paces, then asked, "Does he owe any debt?"We said, "Two dinars."He turned away. Abu Qatada then took the debt upon himself, so we came back to him.Abu Qatada said, "The two dinars are my responsibility."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "The creditor's right is secured, and the deceased is free of them?"He answered, "Yes."So he prayed over him. A day later, he asked, "What happened with the two dinars?"Abu Qatada said, "He only died yesterday."He returned to him the next day, and Abu Qatada said, "I have paid them off."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Now you have cooled his skin for him."
