The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The most complete of believers in faith are those with the best character, gentle and approachable, who get along with others and with whom others get along. There is no good in one who neither gets along with people nor allows people to get along with him."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: أكمل المؤمنين إيمانا أحسنهم خلقا، الموطؤون أكنافا الذين يألفون، ويؤلفون. ولا خير فيمن لا يألف ولا يؤلف.
Tabarani related it in Awsat and Saghir - Majma Bahrayn (105), and Bayhaqi related it in Shuab al-Iman (7616), both by the route of Yaqub bin Abu Abbad Qulzumi, who said, Muhammad bin Uyayna told us, from Muhammad bin Amr bin Alqama, from Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman, from Abu Saeed Khudri, who said, then he narrated it.Tabarani said, "No one narrated it from Muhammad, the brother of Sufyan, except Yaqub."Haythami said in Majma (1/58), "I have not seen anyone mention him," meaning Yaqub bin Abu Abbad. He also said (8/21), "It contains Yaqub bin Abu Abbad Qulzumi, whom I do not know."I say, Yaqub bin Abu Abbad is Yaqub bin Ishaq bin Abu Abbad Makki. He was attributed to his grandfather, which is why Haythami did not recognize him. He is regarded as truthful, there is no harm in him, as Abu Hatim said, and because of this the chain becomes hasan. Likewise his teacher Muhammad bin Uyayna, and his teacher Muhammad bin Amr bin Alqama, all of these are narrators whose hadith is hasan. On this subject there is also a report from Ayesha, who said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The most complete of the believers in faith are those with the best character and those who are kindest to their families." Tirmidhi related it (2612) from Ahmad bin Mani Baghdadi, who said, Ismail bin Ulaya told us, Khalid Haddan told us, from Abu Qilaba, from Ayesha, and she narrated the hadith.Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan hadith, but we do not know of Abu Qilaba having heard directly from Ayesha. Abu Qilaba narrated from Abdullah bin Yazid, a foster-brother of Ayesha, from Ayesha, a different hadith than this one. Abu Qilaba's name is Abdullah bin Zayd Jarmi." End of quote.I say, perhaps Tirmidhi graded it hasan because of its corroborating reports, otherwise it contains a break in the chain. From this same route, Imam Ahmad (24204) and Hakim (1/53) also related it, and Hakim said, "The narrators of this hadith, down to the last of them, are trustworthy according to the standard of the two Shaykhs, though they did not record it with this wording."Dhahabi responded to him, saying, "It contains a break." I say, it has also been narrated with another chain from Abu Salama, from Abu Hurairah, and that is the preserved version. On this subject there is also a report from Amr bin Abasa in a long hadith containing some objectionable additions. Ahmad related it (19435) from Ibn Numayr, who said, Hajjaj, meaning Ibn Dinar, told us, from Muhammad bin Zakwan, from Shahr bin Hawshab, from Amr bin Abasa, who narrated the hadith.Ibn Majah abridged it (2794) through another route from Hajjaj bin Dinar with his chain, and it contains Muhammad bin Zakwan, who is Basri Azdi, Jahdami by clientage. Jahdami is daif, and Busiri faulted the hadith because of him in Zawaid Ibn Majah. His teacher Shahr bin Hawshab is disputed, and moreover he did not hear from Amr bin Abasa, as Abu Hatim and Abu Zura and others stated. See Jami Tahsil by Alai.On this subject there is also a report from Jabir bin Abdullah, who said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The most complete of the believers in faith are those with the best character." Bazzar related it, Kashf Astar (34). Haythami said in Majma (1/58), "Bazzar related it, and it contains Abu Ayub, from Muhammad bin Munkadir, whom I do not know."
