The Messenger of Allah ﷺ announced the death of Najashi on the very day he died. He went out to the prayer ground, arranged the people in rows, and pronounced four takbirs.
أن رسول الله ﷺ نعى النجاشي في اليوم الذي مات فيه، فخرج إلى المصلى، فصف بهم وكبر أربعا.
Malik narrated it in the Book of Funerals (14) from Ibn Shihab, from Saeed bin Musayab, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it. Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Funerals (1245), and Muslim in the Book of Funerals (951), both through his route, similarly. Bukhari gave it the chapter heading, "The funeral prayer at the prayer ground and at the masjid," and mentioned in it the hadith of Abu Hurairah, Funerals (1327, 1328), and the hadith of Abdullah bin Umar.
