A man died, so we washed him, shrouded him, applied burial perfume to him, and placed him before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at the spot where funeral biers are set down, by the standing place of Jibreel. Then we informed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ so he could pray over him, and he mentioned... the rest of the hadith.

Imam Ahmad narrated it (14536), and Hakim (2/58), both from the hadith of Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel, from Jabir, who related the hadith in full. It will come in the chapter "The imam does not pray over one who has a debt until it is paid off on his behalf," in full. Hakim said, "Its isnad is sahih." Its isnad is hasan because of Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel. Haythami also graded it hasan in al-Majmu (3/39).
