Nasai (1929) narrated it from Ishaq, who said, "Nadr told us," who said, "Hammad bin Salama told us, from Qatada, from Anas," and he mentioned it. Its chain is sahih. Ishaq is Ibn Rahawayh, the jurist imam, who died in 238 AH, and his teacher is Nadr bin Shumayl Mazani, Abu Hasan the grammarian, who died in 203 AH.Regarding the phrase, "We stood for the angels," Suyuti said, "There is no contradiction, since multiple purposes and reasons may coexist, so standing could be required both to honor the matter of death and to honor the angels together, and for other reasons besides."As for what was narrated from Abdullah bin Amr, that he said, a man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "O Messenger of Allah, a funeral procession for a disbeliever passes by us. Should we stand for it?" He said, "Yes, stand for it, for you are not really standing for it, rather you are standing to honor the One who seizes souls," this narration is daif.Ahmad (6573) narrated it from Abu Abdul-Rahman, who said, "Saeed told us," who said, "Rabia bin Sayf Maafiri told me, from Abu Abdul-Rahman Hubli, from Abdullah bin Amr," and he mentioned it. Abu Abdul-Rahman here is Abdullah bin Yazid Maafiri.Bazzar also narrated it through this same route in Kashf Astar (836), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (3053), as did Hakim (1/357), who said, "Sahih in its chain." Haythami said in Majma (3/27), "Ahmad, Bazzar, and Tabarani in Kabir narrated it, and the men of Ahmad's chain are reliable."I say, in the chain is Rabia bin Sayf Maafiri, about whom Bukhari said, "He has objectionable narrations," and Azdi and Nasai in his Sunan (4/27) declared him daif. As for Ibn Hibban, he mentioned him in Thiqat (6/301) and said, "He errs frequently." Perhaps he erred in explaining the reason for standing, since no one else corroborated what he mentioned on this point.
