The Prophet ﷺ said, "Wear white clothing, for it is purer and cleaner, and shroud your dead in it."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: ألبسوا من ثيابكم البياض، فإنها أطهر وأطيب، وكفنوا فيها موتاكم.
Nasai (1896) narrated it from Amr bin Ali, who said, Yahya bin Saeed narrated to us, who said, I heard Saeed bin Abu Aruba narrating from Ayub, from Abu Qilaba, from Abu Muhallab, from Samura bin Jundab, and he mentioned it.Its chain of transmission is sahih, and although Saeed bin Abu Aruba was a trustworthy and precise narrator, he engaged in extensive tadlis, and his memory became confused later in life. However, he was corroborated by Maamar, who narrated from Ayub with his chain and wording, "Hold to this white garment, let your living wear it, and shroud your dead in it, for it is among the best of your garments." This was narrated by Abdul-Razzaq in al-Musannaf (6198) from Maamar, and it was narrated by Imam Ahmad (20235), Tabarani in al-Kabir (6975), and Hakim (4/185), all of them through the route of Abdul-Razzaq with the same wording. Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs, though they did not include it because Sufyan bin Uyayna and Ismail bin Ulaya narrated it in mursal form from Ayub."I say, as for the hadith of Sufyan, it was narrated by Tirmidhi (2810) and Ibn Majah (3567), both through the route of Sufyan, from Habib bin Abu Thabit, from Maymun bin Abu Shabib, from Samura bin Jundab, and he mentioned something similar. Tirmidhi said, hasan sahih, and Hakim (1/354) considered it a sahih corroborating witness for the hadith of Ibn Abbas. Perhaps both of them intend the basic substance of the hadith, for it is undoubtedly sahih. As for the hadith of Sufyan itself, it contains Maymun bin Abu Shabib, who did not hear from any of the companions. Amr bin Ali Fallas said, "He used to narrate from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, and he narrated from Umar bin Khattab, Muaz bin Jabal, Abu Dharr, Samura bin Jundab, and Abdullah bin Masud, yet we have nothing from him where he says, 'I heard,' nor have I been informed that anyone claims he heard from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ." Tuhfat Tahsil (322).Likewise, what Imam Ahmad (20105) narrated through the route of Abu Qilaba, from Samura, is not sound, for Abu Qilaba is Abdullah bin Zayd Jarmi, who did not hear from Samura. However, what is sahih is not invalidated by what is not sahih.
