The Prophet ﷺ said, "Wash her an odd number of times, three, five, or seven."She said, "We braided her hair into three plaits."
قال النبي ﷺ: اغسلنها وترا ثلاثا أو خمسا أو سبعا وقالت: مشطناها ثلاثة قرون.
Bukhari reported it in the Book of Funerals (1254), and Muslim in the Book of Funerals (939), both from the hadith of Ayub, from Hafsa, from Umm Atiya, who narrated it.
