We braided the hair of the Prophet's ﷺ daughter into three braids.Waki said that Sufyan said, her forelock and her two side locks.
ضفرنا شعر بنت النبي ﷺ، تعني ثلاثة قرون- وقال وكيع: قال سفيان: ناصيتها وقرنيها.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Funerals (1262) from Qabisa, who said, Sufyan narrated to us, from Hisham, from Umm Huzayl (Hafsa bint Sirin), from Umm Atiya, and he mentioned it. Hisham is Ibn Hassan.Muslim narrated it (41/939) through another route from Hisham bin Hassan with the same chain, and in it she said, "So we braided her hair into three braids, her two side locks and her forelock."It was also narrated from Hammad bin Salama, from Ayub, Hisham, and Habib, from Muhammad bin Sirin, from Umm Atiya, and in it is the instruction, "Make it into three braids for her." Ibn Hibban narrated it in his Sahih (3033), and Tabarani in Al-Kabir (25/49-50).It seems that Umm Atiya's action was done by the command of the Prophet ﷺ, but the narrators shortened the account in their reporting.
