He reported from his father that the Prophet ﷺ said, "The deceased is tormented by the weeping of the living when they cry out, 'Oh, my supporter! Oh, my provider of clothing! Oh, my helper! Oh, my mountain!' and the like. He is shaken and told, 'Are you really like that? Are you really like that?'"Usayd said, "I exclaimed, 'Glory be to Allah! Allah says, 'No bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another' [Anam 6:164].'"He replied, "Woe to you! I am telling you that Abu Musa narrated this to me from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Do you think Abu Musa lied about the Prophet ﷺ, or that I lied about Abu Musa?"
عن أبيه، أن النبي ﷺ قال: الميت يعذب ببكاء الحي إذا قالوا: وا عضداه، وا كاسياه، وا ناصراه، واجبلاه ونحو هذا، يمتع ويقال: أنت كذلك؟ أنت كذلك. قال: أسيد: قلت سبحان الله إن الله يقول: {ولا تزر وازرة وزر أخرى} [سورة الأنعام: ١٦٤] قال: ويحك! أحدثك أن أبا موسى حدثني عن رسول الله ﷺ، فترى أن أبا موسى كذب على النبي ﷺ؟ أو ترى أني كذبت على أبي موسى.
Ibn Majah (1594) narrated it from Yaqub bin Humayd bin Kasib, who said, Abdul-Aziz bin Muhammad Darawardi told us, who said, Usayd bin Abu Usayd told us, from Musa bin Abu Musa Ashari, and he related it in full. This chain includes a teacher of Ibn Majah about whom Hafiz said in Taqrib, "Truthful, but sometimes mistaken." I say, but he was corroborated, for Imam Ahmad (19716) narrated it from Abu Amir (that is, Abdul-Malik bin Amr Aqdi), who said, Zuhayr told us, from Usayd bin Abu Usayd with his chain of transmission, and he related it. Hakim graded it sahih (2/471) and narrated it through the route of Abu Amir Aqadi. Tirmidhi also narrated it (1003) through another route from Usayd bin Abu Usayd, but he shortened it to his saying, "There is no dead person over whom a wailing woman rises and says, 'Oh my mountain! Oh my master!' or something similar, except that two angels are assigned to strike him, saying, 'Were you really like that?'" He said, "Hasan gharib." I say, it is as he said, for its chain rests on Usayd bin Abu Usayd Barrad, who is "truthful."
