The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The deceased is punished due to his family's wailing over him."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: الميت يعذب ببكاء أهله عليه.
Ibn Hibban narrated it in his Sahih (3135) from Abu Yaala, who said, Abbas bin Walid Narsi told us, Yahya Qattan told us, Ubaydullah bin Umar told us, Nafi informed me, from Ibn Umar, and he related the hadith, and its isnad is sahih. Tabarani also narrated it (12/272, 344) through several routes from Ibn Umar in similar fashion.
