Ali said, "I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, 'Lying about me is not like lying about anyone else. Whoever lies about me deliberately, let him take his seat in the Fire.'I also heard the Prophet ﷺ say, 'Whoever is wailed over will be punished on account of the wailing done over him.'"
سمعت النبي ﷺ يقول: إن كذبا علي ليس ككذب على أحد، من كذب علي متعمدا فليتبوأ مقعده من النار سمعت النبي ﷺ يقول: من نيح عليه يعذب بما نيح عليه.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Funerals (1291) from Abu Naeem, who said, Saeed bin Ubayd narrated to us, from Ali bin Rabia, from Mughira, and he related the hadith.Muslim related it in separate parts, the first part of the hadith in the Introduction (4) and the second part in the Book of Funerals (933), through various chains from Saeed bin Ubayd Tai with his own chain of transmission. He added at the beginning of the hadith, "The first person to be wailed over in Kufa was Qaraza bin Kaab." Mughira bin Shuba said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever is wailed over will be punished on the Day of Resurrection for what was wailed over him.'"In Tirmidhi (1000) the hadith comes in fuller detail, through the route of Saeed bin Ubayd Tai, from Ali bin Rabia Asadi, who said, "A man from the Ansar died, called Qaraza bin Kaab, and he was wailed over. Mughira bin Shuba then came and ascended the pulpit. He praised Allah and extolled Him, then said, 'What is this wailing doing in Islam! Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever is wailed over will be punished for what was wailed over him."'" Tirmidhi said, "Gharib hasan sahih."This hadith is to be understood as applying to cases where the wailing was instructed by the deceased and was their established practice, as was done in the pre-Islamic era. Tarafa said,"When I die, mourn me as I deserve, and tear open your collar for me, daughter of Mabad."Qurtubi mentioned this in al-Mufhim (2/582).
