The Messenger of Allah ﷺ announced the death of Negus on the day he died. He went out to the prayer ground, arranged the people in rows, and said the takbir four times.
أن رسول الله ﷺ نعى النجاشي في اليوم الذي مات فيه، خرج إلى المصلى فصف بهم، وكبر أربعا.
Malik narrated it in the Book of Funerals (14), from Ibn Shihab, from Saeed bin Musayab, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it. Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Funerals (1245), from Ismail, and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Funerals (951), from Yahya bin Yahya, both of them from Malik with the same wording.
