The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him, and whoever hates to meet Allah, Allah hates to meet him."Ayesha, or one of his other wives, said, "But we hate death."He replied, "That is not what is meant. Rather, when death comes to the believer, he is given glad tidings of Allah's pleasure and honor, so there is nothing dearer to him than what lies ahead. He therefore loves to meet Allah, and Allah loves to meet him. As for the disbeliever, when death comes to him, he is given the news of Allah's punishment and retribution, so there is nothing more hateful to him than what lies ahead. He hates to meet Allah, and Allah hates to meet him."Bukhari said, Abu Dawud and Amr abridged it from Shuba. Saeed reported it from Qatada, from Zurara, from Saad, from Ayesha, from the Prophet ﷺ.
عن النبي ﷺ قال: من أحب لقاء الله أحب الله لقاءه، ومن كره لقاء الله كره الله لقاءه قالت عائشة، أو بعض أزواجه: إنا لنكره الموت. قال: ليس ذاك، ولكن المؤمن إذا حضره الموت بشر برضوان الله وكرامته، فليس شيء أحب إليه مما أمامه، فأحب لقاء الله، وأحب الله لقاءه، وإن الكافر إذا حضر بشر بعذاب الله وعقوبته، فليس شيء أكرة إليه مما أمامه، كره لقاء الله فكره الله لقاءه. قال البخاري: اختصره أبو داود وعمرو، عن شعبة. وقال سعيد، عن قتادة، عن زرارة، عن سعد، عن عائشة، عن النبي ﷺ.
Bukhari narrated it in "Riqaq" (6507) from Hajjaj, who said, Hammam narrated to us, who said, Qatada narrated to us, from Anas, from Ubada bin Samit, and he related it as mentioned. Muslim also narrated it in "Zikr and Dua" (2683) from Haddab bin Khalid, from Hammam with his chain of transmission, but he confined himself to the core of the hadith, which is his saying ﷺ, "Whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him, and whoever hates to meet Allah, Allah hates to meet him."The hadith of Ayesha which Bukhari mentioned with a suspended chain is the one that follows.
