The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him, and whoever hates to meet Allah, Allah hates to meet him."I said, "Prophet of Allah, is this because of the dislike of death? All of us dislike death."He replied, "It is not like that. Rather, when the believer is given the good news of Allah's mercy, His pleasure, and His paradise, he loves to meet Allah, so Allah loves to meet him. And when the disbeliever is given the news of Allah's punishment and His wrath, he hates to meet Allah, so Allah hates to meet him."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: من أحب لقاء الله أحب الله لقاءه، ومن كره لقاء الله كره الله لقاءه فقلت: يا نبي الله! أكراهية الموت؟ فكلنا نكره الموت. فقال: ليس كذلك، ولكن المؤمن إذا بشر برحمة الله ورضوانه، وجنته أحب لقاء الله، فأحب الله لقاءه، وإن الكافر إذا بشر بعذاب الله وسخطه كره لقاء الله وكره الله لقاءه.
Muslim narrated it in the chapter on remembrance and supplication (2684) from Muhammad bin Abdullah Razi, who said, Khalid bin Harith Hujaymi told us, Saeed told us, from Qatada, from Zurara, from Saad bin Hisham, from Ayesha, and he related it. Bukhari narrated it as a suspended report as mentioned earlier, but Muslim connected it with a full chain, so whoever attributes it to Bukhari has erred. Saeed here is Ibn Abu Aruba.A narration with a similar meaning was reported from a man who heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him, and whoever hates to meet Allah, Allah hates to meet him." He said, the people then bowed their heads weeping, so he said, "What makes you weep?" They said, "We hate death." He said, "That is not it. Rather, when death comes, if the person is one of those brought near to Allah, then it is "comfort and fine provision and a garden of bliss" [Waqiah 56:88–89]. When he is given this good news, he loves to meet Allah, and Allah loves even more to meet him. But if the person is one of those who denied the truth and went astray, then it is "an entertainment of scalding water" [Surah Waqiah 56:92–93]." Ata said, in Ibn Masud's reading it continues, "and then a burning in Hellfire." "When he is given this news, he hates to meet Allah, and Allah hates even more to meet him."Ahmad narrated it (18283) from Affan, who said, Hammam told us, Ata bin Saaib told us, saying, the first day I came to know Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla, I saw an old man with white hair and a white beard riding a donkey, following a funeral procession, and I heard him say, so-and-so bin so-and-so told me that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, and he related it.Hammam here is Ibn Yahya Awdhi Basri. None of the critics stated that he heard from Ata before his memory became confused. They specified only those who heard from him before the confusion set in, namely Shuba, Thawri, Hammad bin Zayd, and Hammad bin Salama. In fact, they said that the narrations of the Basrans who transmitted from him contain many confusions, because he came to reside among them late in his life, and Hammam was one of the Basrans.
