Ati reported that he saw a man praying two units of prayer in his spot on Friday after the congregational prayer. He pushed him and said, "Are you praying the Friday prayer as four units?"Abdullah used to pray two units in his home on Friday and would say, "This is what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did."
أنه رأى رجلا يصلي ركعتين يوم الجمعة في مقامه، فدفعه وقال: أتصلي الجمعة أربعا؟ وكان عبد الله يصلي يوم الجمعة ركعتين في بيته، ويقول: هكذا فعل رسول الله ﷺ.
Abu Dawud (1127) narrated it through several routes from Hammad bin Zayd, who said, Ayub narrated to us, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, and he related it. Its chain of transmission is sahih according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs, and they both included the part of it that goes back to the Prophet, as mentioned before.In another version, Ibn Umar used to pray at length before Friday prayer, and after it he would pray two rak'ahs in his house, and he would relate that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do that. Abu Dawud (1128) narrated it through Musaddad, who said, Ismail narrated to us, Ayub informed us of it. Ibn Khuzayma (1836) declared it sahih, narrating it through several routes from Ismail.
