I came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was delivering a sermon. I said, "Messenger of Allah, here is a stranger who has come to ask about his religion, for he does not know what his religion is."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then turned to me and left off his sermon until he came over to me. A chair was brought, its legs appearing to me to be of iron, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat upon it and began teaching me from what Allah had taught him. Then he returned to his sermon and completed its final portion.
انتهيت إلى النبي ﷺ وهو يخطب، قال: فقلت: يا رسول الله! رجل غريب جاء يسأل عن دينه، لا يدري ما دينه! قال: فأقبل على رسول الله ﷺ، وترك الخطبة حتى انتهى إلى فأتى بكرسي حسبت قوائمه حديدا، قال: فقعد عليه رسول الله ﷺ، وجعل يعلمني مما علمه الله، ثم أتى خطبته فأتم آخرها.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Jumuah (876), from Shayban bin Farroukh, who reported from Sulayman bin Mughira, who reported from Humayd bin Hilal, who said, Abu Rifa said, then he related the hadith.A note of benefit, this is specific to the Prophet ﷺ, because he was sent as a teacher, a bearer of good news, and a warner. Allah the Exalted said, "O Messenger, convey what has been revealed to you from your Lord, and if you do not, then you have not conveyed His message" [Maidah 5:67], and He said, "It is He who has sent among the unlettered a messenger from themselves, reciting to them His verses, purifying them, and teaching them the Book and wisdom, although they were before in clear misguidance" [Jumuah 62:2].So he complied with the command of Allah the Exalted and interrupted the sermon in order to teach him. As for anyone other than him, he does not interrupt the sermon, because it is permissible for him to teach the person after the sermon, or for someone else to take his place in teaching after the sermon.
