The Messenger of Allah ﷺ instructed me to recite to him while he was on the pulpit, so I recited to him from Surah Nisa. When I reached the verse, "How will it be when We bring from every nation a witness, and We bring you against these as a witness?" [Nisa 4:41], I looked at him and his eyes were overflowing with tears.
أمرني رسول الله ﷺ أن أقرأ عليه وهو على المنبر فقرأت عليه من سورة النساء، حتى إذا بلغت: {فكيف إذا جئنا من كل أمة بشهيد وجئنا بك على هؤلاء شهيدا} [النساء ٤١] فنظرت إليه وعيناه تذرفان.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of the Excellences of the Quran (800), from Hannad bin Sari, from Ali bin Mushir, from Amash, from Ibrahim, from Ubayda, from Abdullah.Ibn Khuzayma also narrated it in his Sahih (1454) through another route, from Abu Ahwas, from Amash, from Alqama, this is how Abu Ahwas states it, Abdullah said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me," and he related the hadith in the same way.Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Tafsir (4582) through the route of Sufyan, and Muslim through the route of Hafs bin Ghiyath, both of them from Amash, from Ubayda, from Abdullah, except that neither of them mentioned in their version of the hadith "while he was on the pulpit." For this reason, Muslim pointed out that Hannad added in his narration, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, while he was on the pulpit, "Recite to me."
