A man once delivered a speech in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has been guided rightly, and whoever disobeys them has gone astray."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "What a poor speaker you are! Say instead, 'And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger.'"
أن رجلا خطب عند النبي ﷺ فقال: من يطع الله ورسوله فقد رشد، ومن يعصهما فقد غوي. فقال رسول الله ﷺ: بئس الخطيب أنت! قل: ومن يعص الله ورسوله.
Muslim narrated it in the chapter on Friday (870) through multiple routes from Waki, from Sufyan, from Abdul-Aziz bin Rafi, from Tamim bin Tarafa, from Adi bin Hatim, and he mentioned it.As for what was narrated from Ibn Masud, that the Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has been rightly guided, and whoever disobeys them harms no one but himself..." this is daif. Abu Dawud narrated it (1097) from Muhammad bin Bashshar, who said, Abu Asim narrated to us, who said, Imran narrated to us, from Qatada, from Abd Rabbih, from Abu Iyad, from Ibn Masud, and he mentioned it. It contains Abu Iyad and Abd Rabbih, both of whom are unknown.As for the plural pronoun joining the name of Allah with His angels in His statement, "Indeed, Allah and His angels bless the Prophet ﷺ" [Ahzab 33:56], this is a plural of honor.
