I asked Jabir bin Abdullah, while he was performing tawaf around the Kabah, "Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbid fasting on Friday?"He replied, "Yes, by the Lord of this House."
سألت جابر بن عبد الله، وهو يطوف بالبيت: أنهى رسول الله ﷺ عن صيام يوم الجمعة؟ قال: نعم، ورب هذا البيت.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Fasting (1984), and Muslim in the Book of Fasting (1143), both from the hadith of Ibn Jurayj, who said, Abdul-Hameed bin Jubayr bin Shayba informed me that Muhammad bin Abbad bin Jafar informed him, and he related it. The wording given is that of Muslim, while the wording of Bukhari is, "Did the Prophet ﷺ forbid fasting on Friday? He said, Yes."Bukhari said, Someone other than Abu Asim added, "meaning that one should not single it out for fasting."I say, Abu Asim is Dahhak bin Makhlad Nabeel, the teacher of Bukhari.
