Bazzar narrated it in Kashf Astar (1074), and Tabarani in Al-Kabir (22/366), both through the route of Saeed bin Amr Ashathi, who said, Abthar bin Qasim narrated to us, Muhammad bin Amr bin Alqama narrated to us, from Ubayda bin Sufyan, from Abu Jaad, with this wording. Its narrators are the narrators of the sahih collections, except that Muhammad bin Amr bin Alqama is disputed, though his hadith is hasan, and he is among the narrators of Muslim. Haythami said in Al-Majma (4/4), "Tabarani narrated it in Al-Kabir and Al-Awsat, and its narrators are the narrators of the sahih collections, and Bazzar also narrated it."I say, from this same route it was also transmitted by Ibn Qani in Mujam Sahaba (711), and Abu Naeem in Marifat Sahaba (6725). However, what appears in Bazzar's version is, Saeed bin Muhammad, from Abthar, and I believe this is an error. It is rather Saeed bin Amr Ashathi, who is among the narrators of Muslim.Bazzar said, "We do not know of Abu Jaad narrating anything except this hadith, and one other." I say, the other hadith is what the compilers of the Sunan collections narrated, and which Ibn Khuzayma and Ibn Hibban and others graded sahih, and it concerns the warning against "whoever abandons the Friday prayer." Its takhrij will follow. However, this is complicated by what Bukhari said, as recorded in Al-Isabah (4/32), that nothing is known from Abu Jaad except the hadith mentioned, meaning the warning against abandoning Friday prayer. So did he simply not come across the hadith of this chapter, or does he consider it unsound? Allah, the Exalted, knows best.As for Abu Jaad, there is disagreement about his name, but his status as a companion is well established. Baghawi said, "He settled in Madinah, and he had a house among Bani Damra." Ibn Barqi said, "He was killed alongside Ayesha at the Battle of the Camel."Something of similar meaning has been reported from Abdullah bin Umar, as a marfu narration, "Do not undertake a journey except to three masjids, the Sacred Masjid, the masjid of Madinah, and the masjid of Bayt al-Maqdis." Tabarani narrated it in Al-Kabir (12/337–338), and in its chain is Abdullah bin Umar, who is Ibn Hafs bin Asim bin Umar bin Khattab, considered daif by the majority of scholars.His statement, "Do not undertake a journey..." means that one should not set out to any place with the intention of worship and seeking closeness to Allah the Exalted, except to these three places, out of reverence and honor for their status.
