Tahawi narrated it in Mushkil Athar (585), from Yahya bin Uthman bin Salih, who said, Saeed bin Abu Maryam narrated to us, who said, Abu Ghassan Muhammad bin Mutarrif informed us, from Zayd bin Aslam, from Saeed bin Abu Saeed Maqburi, from Abu Hurairah, who said, "I came to Tur, and I prayed there. Then I met Humayl bin Busra bin Waqqas bin Hajib bin Ghifar, who said, 'Where have you come from?' So I told him, and he said, 'Had I met you before you went there, I would not have let you go. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say...'" Then he mentioned the hadith, and its chain of transmission is sahih.Malik narrated it in the chapter on Jumuah (16), in a long hadith, from Yazid bin Abdullah bin Had, from Muhammad bin Ibrahim bin Harith Taymi, from Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned the hadith, in which it says, "Then I met Busra bin Abu Basra Ghifari."Via Malik's route, Imam Ahmad narrated it (23848), as did Ibn Hibban (2772) and Tahawi in his Mushkil (590), and they attributed the hadith to the musnad of Busra bin Abu Basra, whereas it actually belongs to his son Humayl, as mentioned before.Ibn Abdul-Barr attributed it to the musnad of Abu Basra, who is the grandfather of Humayl.I say, Humayl, his father Busra, and his grandfather Waqqas, who was known by the kunya Abu Basra, are three people who had companionship with the Prophet, as Musab Zubayri said. See Isabah (358/1). Since three of them had companionship, it is possible that the hadith belongs to the musnad of the grandson, or to the musnad of his father Busra, and it is unlikely to belong to his grandfather Abu Basra, because the one who settled in Basra was Humayl and his father. Humayl was also known by the kunya Abu Basra. So whoever says "Abu Basra" means Humayl the grandson, not the grandfather Waqqas, who was also known by the kunya Abu Basra.
