The sun was eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ led the people in prayer. He stood for a long time, then bowed for a long time, then stood again for a long time, though shorter than the first standing, then bowed again, though shorter than the first bowing. Then he rose and prostrated. He did the same in the second cycle. When he finished, the sun had become clear again. He then addressed the people, praising Allah and extolling Him, and said, "The sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse for the death of anyone or for his birth. So when you see that, call upon Allah, proclaim His greatness, and give in charity."Then he said, "Community of Muhammad, by Allah, no one is more jealous than Allah that His male servant should commit adultery or His female servant should commit adultery. Community of Muhammad, by Allah, if you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much."
Malik narrated it in the Book of the Eclipse Prayer (1) from Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, from Ayesha, who said, and then he mentioned it. Bukhari also narrated it in the Book of the Eclipse (1044), and Muslim in the Book of the Eclipse (901), both of them through the route of Malik, with the same chain.
