The Prophet ﷺ went out to pray for rain. He faced the qiblah and supplicated, then turned his cloak around. After that, he prayed two rakahs, reciting aloud in both.
خرج النبي ﷺ يستسقى، فتوجه إلى القبلة، يدعو، وحول رداءه، ثم صلى ركعتين جهر فيهما بالقراءة.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of the Prayer for Rain (1024) from Abu Naeem, who said, we were told by Ibn Abu Dhib, from Zuhri, from Abbad bin Tamim, with the same wording. The hadith of Abbad bin Tamim from his uncle was narrated by Muslim as well, except that he did not narrate it through the route of Ibn Abu Dhib, the one in which reciting aloud is mentioned.Abu Dawud (1162) also pointed to this, saying that Ibn Abu Dhib said, "And he recited in both of them." He said, Ibn Sarh (the teacher of Abu Dawud) added, meaning aloud.I say, that is indeed as he said. Nasai (1522, 1509) and Ibn Hibban (2864) both narrated it through the route of Ibn Abu Dhib and stated explicitly in it that the recitation was aloud. Abu Dawud (1161), Tirmidhi (556), and Ahmad (16437) narrated it through the route of Abdul-Razzaq, from Maamar, from Zuhri, from Abbad bin Tamim, from his uncle, and in it, he recited aloud in both of them.
