I asked Ayesha , "How was the night prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"She replied, "He would sleep during the first part of the night and stand in worship during the latter part. Then, if he wished to be with his wife, he would do so and afterward go back to sleep. When the first call to prayer was made, he would spring up and pour water over himself. If he was not in a state of major impurity, he would simply perform the regular ablution for prayer and then pray two short units."In another narration, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray during the night, making the witr his final prayer."
Muslim narrated it in "Prayer of the Traveler" (739), through the route of Abu Ishaq, who said, "I asked Aswad bin Yazid about what Ayesha had told him regarding the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ," and he related it.
