Masruq reported,
I asked Ayesha 
, "Which deed was most beloved to the Prophet ﷺ?"She replied, "The one done consistently."I asked, "When would he rise at night?"She said, "When he heard the rooster crow, he would get up and pray."

سألت عائشة رضي الله عنها: أي العمل كان أحب إلى النبي ﷺ؟ قالت: الدائم، قلت: متى كان يقوم؟ قالت: إذا سمع الصارخ قام فصلى.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Tahajjud (1132), and Muslim in the Book of the Prayer of Travelers (741), both through the route of Abul-Ahwas, from Ashath, from his father, from Masruq, who mentioned it.Regarding the word "the crier," Nawawi said, "Here it means the rooster, by the agreement of the scholars, who said it was named this because of how much it crows." End of quote.Al-Hafiz said, "The 'sarkha' is a loud cry, and it is customary for the rooster to crow around midnight in most cases, as Muhammad bin Nasir stated."Ibn Tin said, "This agrees with the statement of Ibn Abbas, 'midnight, or shortly before it,' or shortly after it."
