Tirmidhi narrated it (331) from Qutayba, who said, "Abu Ahwas narrated to us, from Simak bin Harb, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas," and he then related the hadith.Tirmidhi said, "Hasan sahih. Ahmad and Ishaq said, it has been established from the Prophet ﷺ that he prayed on a khumra. He said, the khumra is a short mat." End of quote.Ibn Hibban narrated it in his Sahih (2310 and 2311) through the route of Abu Ahwas, with the same wording. Its isnad is hasan on account of Simak bin Harb, who is disputed, especially in his narration from Ikrima, except that his hadith is hasan when he does not narrate something that no one else narrated. What Ibn Khuzayma (1005) and Hakim (1/259) narrated through the route of Zama bin Salih, from Salama bin Wahram, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, states that the Prophet ﷺ prayed on a rug.Hakim said, "Sahih. Bukhari relied on Ikrima, and Muslim relied on Zama." Dhahabi commented on this, saying, "He, meaning Zama, was paired with another narrator, and Salama was graded daif by Abu Dawud."
