Abu Saeed Khudri reported that he came to visit the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and found him praying on a straw mat, prostrating upon it.
حدثنا أبو سعيد الخدري أنه دخل على رسول الله ﷺ فوجده يصلي على حصير يسجد عليه.
Muslim narrated it in the chapter on mosques (661, 271) via Amash, from Abu Sufyan, from Jabir, and mentioned it. Tirmidhi said (332), after narrating the hadith via Amash, "The hadith of Abu Saeed is a hasan hadith (and in some copies there is an addition of sahih), and this is the practice according to most of the people of knowledge, except that a group of the people of knowledge preferred praying on the ground as a recommended practice. Abu Sufyan's name is Talha bin Nafi." End of quote.
