My grandmother Mulaykah invited the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to a meal, and he ate some of it. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Stand up so I may lead you in prayer."Anas said, "I went to a mat of ours that had turned black from long use and sprinkled it with water. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood on it, and the orphan and I lined up behind him, with the old woman behind us. He prayed two units of prayer and then left."
دعت جدتي مليكة رسول الله ﷺ لطعام فأكل منه، ثم قال رسول الله ﷺ: قوموا فلأصلي لكم قال: أنس: فقمت إلى حصير لنا قد اسود من طول ما ليس فنضحته بماء. فقام عليه رسول الله ﷺ وصففت أنا واليتيم وراءه، والعجوز من ورائنا فصلى ركعتين ثم انصرف.
Malik narrated it in "Shortening the Prayer While Traveling" (31), from Ishaq bin Abdullah bin Abu Talha, from Anas bin Malik, and he related it. Bukhari narrated it in "Prayer" (380), and Muslim in "Mosques" (658), both through the route of Malik, in like manner. And in Sunan Abu Dawud (658), from another route, from Anas, who said, the Prophet ﷺ used to visit Umm Salim, and sometimes the time for prayer would come upon him there, so he would pray on a mat of ours, a reed mat which we used to sprinkle with water. Its isnad is sahih.Mulayka is the mother of Umm Salim, and Umm Salim is the mother of Anas bin Malik. The incident took place in the house of Umm Salim, as will come later in another hadith similar to this one, narrated from Umm Salim herself.
