He entered upon the Prophet ﷺ and saw him praying on a mat, prostrating upon it. He said, "I also saw him praying in a single garment, wrapping himself with it."
أنه دخل على النبي ﷺ فرآه يصلي على حصير يسجد عليه قال: ورأيته يصلي في ثوب واحد متوشحا به.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Prayer (519), through the route of Amash, from Abu Sufyan, from Jabir, who said, "Abu Saeed Khudri told me," and he related it. In another version, "placing its two ends over his shoulders."Nawawi said, "The terms mushtamil, mutawashshih, and mukhalif bayna tarafayh all have the same meaning here. Ibn Sikkit said, 'Tawashshuh means taking the end of the garment that one has placed over the right shoulder and passing it under the left arm, and taking the end placed over the left shoulder and passing it under the right arm, then tying them together over the chest.' This also shows that praying in a single garment is permissible." End of quote.
