Some men used to pray with the Prophet ﷺ with their lower garments tied around their necks like children. He said to the women, "Do not raise your heads until the men have settled into a sitting position."
كان رجال يصلون مع النبي ﷺ عاقدي أزرهم على أعناقهم كهيئة الصبيان. وقال للنساء: لا ترفعن رءوسكن حتى يستوى الرجال جلوسا.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Prayer (362), Musaddad told us, he said, Yahya (that is, Ibn Saeed Qattan) told us, from Sufyan, he said, Abu Hazim told me, from Sahl bin Saad, and he mentioned it, and this is his wording. It appears that the one who said this to the women was the Prophet ﷺ.However, Muslim narrated it in the Book of Prayer (441) from Abu Bakr bin Abu Shayba, he said, Waki told us, from Sufyan, with the same chain, and in it, someone said, "O women, do not raise your heads until the men have raised theirs." It was said that the one who said this was Bilal, saying it by the command of the Prophet ﷺ, and this was so that their eyes would not fall upon the private parts of the men because of the narrowness of their waist-wrappers.
