His father reported that he was sitting in a gathering with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when the call to prayer was made. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ got up and prayed, then returned, while Mihjan remained in his place and had not prayed with him.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him, "What kept you from praying with the people? Are you not a Muslim man?"He replied, "Of course, Messenger of Allah, but I had already prayed with my family."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "When you come, pray with the people, even if you have already prayed."
Malik narrated it in Salat al-Jamaah (8), from Zayd bin Aslam, from a man from Banu Dil called Busr bin Muhjin, and he mentioned it. Nasai narrated it (857) from Qutayba, from Malik, with the same wording. Hakim graded it sahih (1/244) after extracting it through the route of Malik, and Baghawi graded it hasan in Sharh al-Sunnah (3/43).Busr is with a dammah on the ba and a sakin on the sin. This is how Malik stated it in his narration from Zayd bin Aslam. Thawri, narrating from Zayd bin Aslam, said Bishr, with a kasrah on the ba and the shin pronounced as shin (not sin). But what is correct is what Malik said. Abu Naeem, Ibn Abdul-Barr, and Ibn Hibban explicitly affirmed this, and this is likewise how Imam Ahmad narrated it in his Musnad (16393–16395). He is a well known Tabii, as Bukhari and others firmly established. It can be derived from the hadiths of this chapter that whoever prays alone and then comes upon the congregation should pray with them, whatever prayer it may be among the five daily prayers. This is the view held by Shafii, Ahmad, Ishaq, and many of the Tabiin.
