Malik narrated it in "Prayer in Congregation" (1) from Nafi, from Abdullah bin Umar, and he mentioned it. Bukhari narrated it in "The Adhan" (645) from Abdullah bin Yusuf, and Muslim in "The Mosques" (650) from Yahya bin Yahya, both of them from Malik with the same wording.Dahhak also narrated it, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, from the Prophetﷺ, and he said, "Twenty-some."Tirmidhi (215) said, "This is how Nafi narrated from Ibn Umar, from the Prophetﷺ, that he said, 'Prayer in congregation is superior to the prayer of a man alone by twenty-seven degrees.' Most of those who narrated from the Prophetﷺ said, 'Twenty-five,' except Ibn Umar, who said, 'Twenty-seven.'" He also said, "The hadith of Ibn Umar is hasan sahih."I say, Dahhak narrated it from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, according to Muslim, and he said, "Twenty-some," and this wording covers both narrations, "twenty-seven" and "twenty-five." So the narration "twenty-some" is the original, and "twenty-seven" and "twenty-five" are the detailed specification of that general statement. At one time he said this, and at another time he said that, although the narration "twenty-five" is given preference over the narration "twenty-seven" because of the greater number of narrators who reported it.
