The Prophet ﷺ said, "I sometimes stand in prayer intending to prolong it, but then I hear a child crying, so I shorten my prayer, not wishing to cause hardship to his mother."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: إني لأقوم في الصلاة أريد أن أطول فيها، فأسمع بكاء الصبي فأتجوز في صلاتي كراهية أن أشق على أمه.
Bukhari narrated it in the adhan (707) from Ibrahim bin Musa, who said, Walid informed us, who said, Uzai narrated to us, from Yahya bin Abu Kathir, from Abdullah bin Abu Qatada, from his father Abu Qatada, and he related the hadith.Bukhari said, Bishr bin Bakr, Ibn Mubarak, and Baqiyya followed him in narrating from Uzai.His saying, "so I shorten it," tajawwuz in a matter means lightening it and making it easy.
